Robert Gorman's investigatory work with Body Movement / Percussive Sound 2017
Since 2015 Gorman has investigated spatial relationships found between percussive sound and body movement, which has led to a series of live video performances and a number of experimental/ choreographed percussive sound performances with dancers and other artists. Below are some photos and written texts of those experiences:
2016-17 "The Bestia"
His investigatory work with dancers: Amelia Ibañez and Matilde Amigo has expanded his understanding of the idea of "created space". This new experience, he finds paramount for his overall advancement with B M P S and more specifically, this allows him to express his intuition of spatial reasoning in a constantly changing environment, which tests his response time with percussive sound to body movement “on the go” and helps him expand his percussive sound vocabulary: in the sense, he can match a vibrational tone ( as sound) to its environment or create sound to a movement.
2016 Artist Residency & Festival "Berlin Germany"
His work at the residency program was a truly eye opening experience for his research. He had the pleasure to collaborate with Thomas Tajo, spoken word artist, and Greta Grineviciute, contemporary dancer, to create percussive sound for and between each artist. His ability to intuitively capture the dancer's narrative through percussive sounds; and at the same time, he was able to create an ambient sound connecting the narrative with the spoken dialogue between the two performers.
